There are many magical things about the south, however, one plant stands out above the rest – crepe myrtles. In fact, it is as if these charming trees were made specifically for our region. They are the best of the best when it comes to southern summer plants, as they can easily tolerate the heat, humidity and even a harsh drought; all while holding onto their brilliant blooms.
Crepe myrtles come in a variety of colors, which makes it easy to find just the color your commercial landscaping is missing. These plants only require a moderate amount of water and thrive in full sun. Along with the variety of color this tree provides, you will also find that it has a unique bark design that will bring another element of beauty to your commercial landscaping. This southern tree also presents brilliant color in the fall just before it loses its leaves for the winter.
If you aren’t sold yet, you’ll be happy to know that crepe myrtles are typically overlooked by deer, meaning that your hard work won’t be used for a deer’s late night snack. In fact, the only work these magnificent plants really require is pruning them in the early spring to enhance the year’s new flower growth.
For all of these reasons, the crepe myrtle is our Plant of the Month at Great Estates Landscaping. If you still want to add a crepe myrtle to your commercial landscaping this summer, it’s not too late! Just contact us as soon as possible and we’ll meet with you in order to discuss your options. Crepe myrtles are the perfect southern staple – why not add it to your commercial landscaping?
