Let’s all admit it to ourselves. Now that winter has finally settled in, Great Estates has cabin fever. We spent all of fall dreaming of a white Christmas. But, now that New Year’s has come and gone (and the weather has finally turned frightfully cold) we can’t wait for sunshine and spring! The first thing we’re going to do is plan a springtime picnic on our lawns. To make sure our lawns, and yours, are picnic perfect for the upcoming season, here are a few things you should do first to prepare for spring.
Start your spring cleaning by raking up lawn debris including leaves and sticks. This will give you a fresh start for the spring and raking has the added benefit of loosening the surface of the soil, encouraging healthy airflow. After you finish raking your lawn, look for areas with weak grass growth or dead grass. Because you’ve aerated your soil with raking, you can spread grass seed directly over the grass. Don’t forget to regularly for faster, stronger growth. And, don’t forget to mulch! We talked about the importance of mulching here.
It may come as a surprise, but you should still mow in the winter. Grass is actually pretty sensitive to infrequent mowing, so keeping up your lawncare is still vital. And, if you keep your grass a bit on the longer side, it will grow thicker and healthier, with a better-established root system. The best grass length is between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches.
So, if you can’t wait to lounge around on the lawn, try these tips to prepare for spring. Still in need of some spring cleaning tips for your lawn? Call the experts at Great Estates Landscaping.
