Our last article states that one of the top landscaping trends for summer of 2017 is a lush green landscape area with lots of natural plants and elements. Based on this trend, one really great option for a backyard or commercial greenspace could be what we call a Naturescape.
Naturescaping is a method of landscape design that allows nature and the landscape elements to co-exist to be enjoyed by everyone. We suggest a naturescape design using all native plants so that it’s easier to maintain and keep going year after year. Using plants native to your area are low-maintenance compared to “industrial” plants, and also encourages biodiversity. Plus, pollinators benefit from it as well!
The other great thing about naturescaping is the ability to plant a variety of different flowers and greenery, depending on your personal taste. Some examples of beautiful, low-maintenance native plants we can incorporate into your custom naturescape include:
Azaleas
These native beauties can be found in both shade tolerant or sun-loving varieties. They are easy to maintain and can be found in many different colors.
Butterfly Bush
This perennial enjoys dry, sunny areas, and isn’t invasive, aggressive, or weedy. It’s a floral variety that both you and the local wildlife can enjoy! This plant attracts beautiful butterflies and other pollinators that are so important to our ecosystem.
Oakleaf Hydrangea
This blooming bush is one that looks fantastic in all four seasons. Hydrangeas are also another favorite among pollinators like beetles and butterflies, and deer like the soft blooms as well. The Oakleaf Hydrangea varieties are able to thrive in dry conditions, with very little attention.
